Just replaced my '69 SB w/AC heater hoses. In the small hose was a black plastic valve with a vacuum input that I thought was a heater control valve. I doubt it is original; it has a made in Mexico sticker still attached. It had been in contact with heat and had melted to where I doubt it will work. I was looking for a correct replacement, but I can't find a 'heater control valve' for a '69 listed anywhere. All help appreciated and thanks.

Re: name of '69 part
Marc the valve that you are talking about is a vacuum controled heater water cut off used on 69-71 cars with Air Conditioning. Originally it was a metal valve. It is still available from some vendors. I believe that the valve they are selling is the 79-81 style which will function correctly but I cannot tell you about the configeration, whether it is close or totally differentDick Whittington- Top

Re: name of '69 part
The later era vacuum controlled hot water cutoff valve is pretty darn close to factory original in configuration + being located in the 'dark' bowels of the RH splash panel area, it's pretty hard to get a close look during judging....
But, these service replacements are generally gold dichomate finished while the earlier, factory original, cutoff valves were simply silver cad/zinc finished. You can find the real McCoy cutoff valves at your local scrap yard by looking for an A/C equipped Chevy station wagon of the era whose front clip has been removed.
Typically, it's a simple job of cleaning up the donor cutoff valve and taking it for a 'bath' in your home plating tank. Then, suck on the vac nipple and verify the valve opens and closes properly!!!- Top
