    66 Base Alternator

Currently detailing out the engine on my 66 with base engine. Couple questions I need help on. The lower alternator bracket was black when I took it off. The TIM&JG lists that being engine color...seems kind of logical to have it black since the upper arm is! Wondering the logic for it being engine color. My engine has been worked on so this is not a "original" finished part.

What is the finish of the bolt that attached the upper and lower alternator brackets to the waterpump? Engine color, cad/zinc? Also what is the finish on the bolts that attach the ignition wire support brackets to the intake manifold? I currently have those engine color.
    Thanks!! Tim

    Re: 66 Base Alternator

The TIM&JG is correct, the lower alternator bracket is engine color. I also have a '66 base motor car and can send you a picture of the bracket in it's original engine color condition. Both upper and lower brackets mount to the water pump using the same bolt and it is also engine color. The bracket mounting bolt is the only one (of the 4 water pump bolts) that uses a lock washer (also engine color).

I don't know the reasoning, but have wondered the same thing myself. The water pump was mounted to the engine assembly prior to painting. The alternator bracket must have been as well, but I've never seen that bracket in the list of items that made up the engine assembly when painted.

I believe the other 2 bolts and lock washers for the lower bracket (one for the exhaust manifold and the other for the alternator pivot) are black phosphate.

The wire support brackets are also engine color. The bolts were part of the engine assembly when painted and later removed to install the wire supports.

Thanks for the info! A photo would be great when you get a chance. Time to paint some parts today since there's a hint of spring in the air...need to get the car back to running!! Tim
