    Rebuilding Headlight Motors

Has any one ever tried rewinding their headlight motors or know where to get a useable body. I cleaned up one motor and swapped the gear 180 degrees and it runs great. The other motor runs very slow and gets noticeably warm. I am assuming that the winding must be shorted out. Does anyone know what the proper ohm meter readings are to check these motors or a possible repair procedure.

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Re: Rebuilding Headlight Motors

Have had excellent luck refreshing the C2 motors, assume that's what you have. The ohm reading of the armature is close to a short - expect .005 ohms. Assure the armature end that contact the brush is clean (open slots) and smooth. Can put in a drill press and lightly sand the area. Do not use heavy lub if in northern part of country. Be very carful when removing the armature from the casing since the casing contains a brass bushing in the rear that sometimes comes out - then you have real problems. Best information I found was a simple blow up view in the 53-72 Parts Catalog (may be in may others also), however I have never looked into any GM info for rebuilding. If armature is bad, try a starter rebuilding shop they do very similar work. Good luck.

If armature is good, but field windings are bad

What do you do in that case Alan?
