Just went to the garage and was surprised to see coolant running on the floor from under the coupe. seems the freeze plug decided to rust out during the winter. can anyone help me with any tips on a repair, this plug is partially hidden by motor mount. thanks for any thoughts.

Re: C2 drivers side freeze plug
Hi Joe, Sorry to give you the bad news but the real problem is the other plugs will probably not be far behind. The good news is this did not happen on a nice day a long way from home. The plugs are not hard to replace they are just hard to get at. you will have to lift the engine up one side at a time high enough to remove the mount from the block, tap the plug on one side to twist it so you can get a hold on it and pull it out. Don't punch it into the water jacket and don't damage the block hole surface. I always put a little gasket sealer on the new plug and use a socket and hammer to tap the new one in straight. Good Luck!- Top

Re: C2 drivers side freeze plug
Difficult to replace with engine in car. If one rusted the others aren't too far behind. I had one rust thru on the rear of the engine behind the flywheel.
Had to pull the engine to repair so I replaced all of them. Mine had a buildup of scale behind the freeze plug that contributed to the problem. Trash seems to collect in the freeze plug cavities.- Top
