I'm trying to decide if I should get the brake backing plates on my 69 replated or replaced with a repro set. Does anyone know of a good quality repro set out there, are these repro set all the same or should I just spend the extra and get mine replated? The reason I'm on the fence with this is because it will be almost twice as much to replate as it would be to just replace them.

Re: Reproduction Brake Backing Plates?
Greg:
I purchased backing plates from Paragon several years ago and they were identical to my originals in every respect including the part #'s. Unless they have changed I would get the repro's. Hope this helps.

Re:Keep it original
Greg,
I would keep the originals and have them replated. I would keep your car as original as possible. It's not as expensive as you may think. You can send off a box of parts to Van Nuys Plating and it's about $50/box if they are all the same plating( silver cad, gold cad, etc.) Hood support, hinges, hose clamps, etc.

I Agree...Keep it original
If they were severly rusted or damaged I might consider replacing with repros, but otherwise, it's worthwhile to get them replated. Baer's Corvettes did the first repros and from what I recall, the quality was good. Finish on 69 backing plates should be zinc, not gold dichromate like later years.- Top
