Mega cool video on 63 prototype design and testing

    Hi all,

I don't know if it has been posted before but this one is absolutely worthwhile downloading. It isn't small (18MB) but even using a phone line you should simply have to have a look at it aspecially if you own a 63 coupe! It shows the assembly of one of the first prototypes and testing of a coupe and convertible. Also Zora is briefly shown...

We all need to give a big thank you to Sander for sending it to me in the first place!!!

    Enjoy,
    Rob.

            OK, someone had to ask...

            Did these prototpes survive?

            Thanks, Rob!

Probably not, as they had ZERO production parts (all hand-made prototype parts); they most likely continued as development and durability mules with a long succession of updated parts replaced for test and evaluation, then met their end in the crusher. Prototypes are just development "tools", and are of no constructive use when that job is done. We're not talking about "Pilot" cars here - we're talking about Prototypes - BIG difference.

With the recent BJ auction of the Old's 88 prototype for 3 million plus, would you speculate how was it able to wind up in private hands and not GM's?

Re: OK, someone had to ask...

Yup - GM dumped it at the Warhoops junkyard not too far up Mound Road from the Tech Center (where they dumped all the old stuff in those days), and Joe Bortz got to it before the Warhoops guys scrapped it; Joe got almost all of his collection that way.
