C2 Power Brake Booster

On my 67 brake booster I found a small tab located about the 3 o'clock position with 5867 stamped on it. Does anyone know what this stamping means? Is there any other numbers/stampings I should look for to verify it is authentic.

Interesting...flipped to my copy of the '67 JG book to see why you were confused and noticed it's description of the brake booster isn't as concise as earlier MY JG books! Here's the text from the '66 JG, Jimmy....

"All cars equipped with power brakes, option J50, have a power brake booster. The booster part number is 5467011. The last four digits '7011' are stamped into the tabs at the perimeter (10:00 and 4:00) where both halves join together."

Jack,

Not 100% sure on 67 but I think the 7011 tab number booster is unique to 65 and 66. I believe the number is different for 67 but I don't have the info here to look it up. Maybe someone has this info?

Correct - '67 booster was 5458832.

Jim,

Just found the info on the booster tab number. For 67 (ONLY) the tab number is 5867. This four digit number is generally one number higher than the last four numbers of the entire seven digit part number for the booster/master cylinder assembly. It's a one year only, Corvette only, booster.

On my '67, the master cylinder and the booster match everything described in my '67 Judging Manual (dated 1997).
There is no mention of any numbers on any tabs.

I located the tabs discussed here (they are more like 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock if you are facing the firewall than 3 o'clock).
I had previously thought much about this car to be original, but have recently had to rethink that. It is all over 30 years old, however.

At any rate, the 4 o'clock tab appears to be blank.
The 10 o'clock tab has 3 digits, 867, not 4 digits as descibed.

Does that mean my booster is a replacement?
It was painted black at some time, and I've got most of the paint off.
It appears more silver than gold colored under the black paint.

Hi,

As Jack states, the number on the tab is the last digits of the part number. The part number changed for each year during the midyear production run. as well as for certain brake options.

I've also seen a date code on the tab on the opposide side of the part number.

The tab number changed three times for the years 64 through 67. 64 and 65 with drum brakes shared the same tab number. 65 with disc brakes 66 shared another and 67 was unique with a tab number of 5867. Brake options, such as heavy duty brakes, did not affect the booster or tab number.
