Right click on the red X and choose 'view image' or similar. it's a biiiiiiiiiig image on a slow server.
Very nice pad but it looks like some one has tried to buff it up nice and shiny.- Top

Re: '72 CRT engine code
Yep, looks like the pad has managed to get a fair amount of corrosion over the years, and someone tried to clean it with a hardened tool...a lot of tool marks "across the grain". I can't see any evidence of broach marks remaining. I was waiting to see what the "The Great Karnacks" had to say about it. BTW, Billy, that is one fine digital camera you got there.- Top

Re: '72 CRT engine code
Mike,
You are a wizard. When I clicked on the red x the "Open link" and "open link in new window" are grayed out. The URL worked just fine. You guys in the great white north must have less encumbered computers than those of us south of the border. Thanks for your help.
Billy,
Very interesting pad. I wish there were some broach marks visible. You should bring it to a regional for judging so we can see it in the flesh, so to speak. I'll second the comment about a nice camera -- that is a great shot.Terry- Top

Re: '72 CRT engine code
The picture came through fine on my SBC DSL. Not too much delay. As editor I appreciate those mega pixel images. Now if only I had the T1 on the fibre cable that I used to have at work. :-) That was horsepower!!
Billy,
Unless you have some compelling other reason to pull the engine -- leave it be. The alternate location is quite visible with the engine in the car. Just a curious question: Why would there be anything at the alternate location. My observation is that the alternate location is used in leu of the stamp pad for the VIN definitive. It also could be used if they boogered up the VIN on the stamp pad. You have the VIN on the stamp pad. I can't picture an assembly line worker striking an extra blow just to put the numbers in more than one location.
Give us a chance to see it in the raw, or as raw as it is.Terry- Top

Re: '72 CRT engine code
Thanks Terry,
No, there is no real reason to pull the engine other than to clean it up cosmetically. For some reason I thought that the rear pad usually got stamped also....but that is why I'm asking the experts here for advise. The car is in excellent mechanical condition. I've owned it for almost 7 years now and finally have a little time to start working on it. I figured starting with the engine and engine compartment and then new paint and maybe a new interior. However, if you think it would be beter to leave it "as is" for now, I will follow you advise and try to get it judged/inspected. When and where is the best place/event to get it judged. I live in Tempe/Phoenix AZ. Thanks again.
