      Kevin-----

All 1969 through 1977 Corvettes originally used a black chrome shifter knob for cars with 4 speed. 1969 with 3 speed used a chrome knob. After 1969, 3 speed manuals were gone and all manuals got the black chrome ball.

The black chrome shifter knob, GM #3960608, was discontinued from SERVICE in December, 1974 and replaced, for SERVICE, by the 64-68 (and, 69 3 speed manual) chrome knob, GM #3857160. However, the black chrome knob continued to be used in PRODUCTION at least through 1977. I'm not sure what was originally used during the 78-81 period.

Joe, I think the black chrome was used in 1978-81 also. We don't see as many of these.
