    67 Brake Booster Tab Number......

I've gotten four emails so far on my previous post about the 67 power brake booster tab number. One said I was correct. Two said I was incorrect and one said that If I didn't know what I was talking about, I shouldn't be posting information on the DB. Anyone willing to post their tab number to help sort this out? I'll try to post a scan later that should clear this up. Thanks,

    Michael

    Found The Paperwork....

Here's the sheet directly from Delco, printed 1967. Shows the assembly number and the "5867" tab number for all 67's.

      Michael -

This stuff is fascinating, isn't it? Is there a date on that Delco sheet? The '67 Assembly Manual shows 5455867 as the original released part, replaced on change date 9-22-66 by 5458832, neither of which appear on the Delco chart. Wonder if the Delco chart is production or service part numbers?

        John,

Unfortunately, the sheets are not specifically dated, other than 1967, so I have to assume they are initial release. The thing that is confusing people on these is the fact that the "assembly" number is the part number for the booster/master cylinder combination, not the booster. Any changes made to the master cylinder would then change the "assembly" part number, but not necessarily the booster or tab number. It's also possible that a minor change was made to the booster that changed it's part number but not the tab number. This was typical for the numbering system from Delco Moraine. In previous years, up to and including 1966, the part number for the "assembly" was initially one number lower than the tab number. Example is a 65 Corvette. The PB "assembly" number was 5467010 and the booster number was 5467011 with tab number 7011. For the 66 model year, the same basic assembly was used but with a slightly different master cylinder. The new "assembly" number was 5467322 but still used the same booster with 7011 tab number.

The question is, did the tab number change on 67 at some time during the run? We know that the 5867 tab number appears on at least some 67's but I don't know if they are early or late production. Just a guess but I'd say the tab number probably didn't change all year, even if the part number did, but again, that's just a guess. Need input from owners of known original cars. Thanks John,

        Michael

          Michael -

The '65 AIM shows separate numbers for the master cylinder (5467005) and the booster (5467011), as does the '67 AIM - master cylinder (5458831) and booster (5458832, which replaced 5455867). I know they were received separately, as we installed the master cylinder on the Chassis Line prior to bleed and test, and the booster was installed on the Trim Line; the master cylinder was pulled back onto the booster and the two nuts driven after Body Drop.

I'm sure the tab number didn't change, as the detail booster half at Delco was the same regardless, but it sounds like they had several different part numbers for the assembly depending on its as-shipped configuration.
