Re: 65 corvette hood latches
re corvette hood latches bob patton paste were corvette hood latches both parts on the hood and firewall painted or plated with something like cadimum greetings jack the following info is from my ncrs ' judging guide which is a must if you're restoring a corvette the catches on the firewall are cadmium or zinc plated with a black return spring there should be varing degrees of black out overspray because they were in place when the blk out was applied the hood pins and associated retainers are also cad or zinc plated the spring is painted gloss black overspray of body color or blk out may appear on the retainer both the pins firewall catches should have a moderate amount of white lithium grease hope this helps and if you are not a member of ncrs join today no where in the hobby will you get a bigger bang for the buck- Top

Re: 65 corvette hood latches
re corvette hood latches carl rose both jim and bob are absolutely correct on this matter for clarification as to etiology it is my understanding that the factory installed a temporary boot over the latches during the engine caompartment blackout painting and any areas not covered were oversprayed including the mounting bolts the cable connecting the latches was painted on st louis bodies and possibly not on a o smith cars and in the because you had to ask department the hood screw stands are cad plated with a lock nut unbeveled top and most had a small cad plated washer although i have seen latches without the rubber grommet on top has the gm part number underneath which the reproductions i have seen do not as noted above if you have not already since you ask interesting questions join the ncrs good luck carl- Top
