Hi again, I found a black chevrolet, 8 cylinder dist. cap today. It has aluminium inserts in the cap. On the top around the the center tower on the top it says "Delco-Remy" below the tower it say "patent pending". there is nothing else on the outside(no part numbers). On the inside it says in small letters "Delco Remy" between the Delco and Remy in tiny letters it says "made in the USA". All this lettering is not over a 1/2 inch tall. This is between 2 rotor pick ups. In between the next 2 rotor pickups is "57". What is this? I saw nothing like it on ebay now or completed sales. thanks in advance Dale

Dale,
You should have the first version of the D-308 Delco Remy cap. Check the location of the adjusting window to be sure you have a Chevrolet cap. The Patent Pending No "R" cap you have was used from 58-67. It is by far the scarcest version of the D-308. Nice find. -

Is there an 'R' anywhere on the top? Those no 'R' caps with the copper contacts I believe are getting expensive. I don't know about the aluminum ones.

I have two of the caps that are as you described. One is slightly shorter, which I believe is for fuel injected engines. Sounds like yours is original, as are mine. Usually the ones with the "R" are the ones advertised on ebay.Comment

"R's" can be polished off to be invisible to the naked eye when the cap is installed on the car with a little patience and skill.Comment
