Re: Muncie Rebuild Kits
Depends on what you mean by kit, do you just need the small parts, synchros, bearings, seals, bushings, needle bearings? Regardless, I bought all high quality parts including clutches, shift forks and some new gears from:
Bob Bartlett, 4 Gear Trans
Co., 1318 Goldenrod Drive, Batavia, Illinois 60510. 1-630-879-8777
I was very happy with his great service, help over the phone and prices.- Top

Re: Muncie Rebuild Kits
As Scott mentioned-- not all kits are created equal. I believe that the quality of the components in the kits does not vary much but some kits include much more than others.
Figure out what you need and then ask for a complete listing of the contents of the kit. The one I purchased had everything down to the input nut including the countershaft pin... but lacked a special nut wrench wrench.
I wouldn't buy a kit until you tear everything apart and check for broken items and wear. My kit was puchased first before the tear-down, I then purchased some gears and forks andother hard parts, then a bearing retainer after a bead blast revealed a crack, then I purchased a speedo housing and input nut wrench with a new nut. If I was smart I could have saved on shipping and could have negotiated a better deal but I didn't take the time to clean and inspect everything before starting the reassembly.

Re: Muncie Rebuild Kits
I bought my kit from Paul Cangialosi and also got his video. I called him twice with questions on the rebuild. He seemed very willing talk and was quite helpful. I would rank him as an excellent vendor. A link to his site is below.

Re: Muncie Rebuild Kits
The video is an EXCELLENT resource for the first time Muncie builder. I was a little intimidated at firsr but after watching the video the fears went away. Well worth the $$$$ Paul definately knows his stuff - even runs his own muncie bulletin board.

Re: Muncie Rebuild Kits
I agree with Dave M about the video. It is great. It is not intended to be slick, just informative. I have rebuilt several Muncies over the years, but I decided to get his video before my most recent, and it was worth it. My trans doesnt leak, shifts great, looks good. I bought a 12 ton press in the process, which was helpful for easy gear pressing and now wish I had bought it years before.
Also very helpful was Ed Hartnett (Bloomington Gold Instructor), who is at Carlisle every year. Ed showed me the benefits of using the new locking synchronizers and other good stuff. He also manufactures his own pilot bearings, which are better than the cheap imports many others sell (610-623-9381). Nice guy!
I also bought a "master rebuild kit", plus a new reverse gear and the other parts I needed from Ritchie Mulligan at Street-Wise Performance, NJ. Ritchie patiently answered my questions - was very helpful, and had quick shipping (I dont have his number but it should be on google.

Re: Have to agree regarding Paul C.
Bought the rebuild kit for my 68 M-20 PLUS the video and was glad I did!.
The only issue I had with the entire package was that the video tape jumped and he promptly replaced it.
The parts fit the bill perfectly and my rebuild went smooth as silk.
Called and e-mailed him with questions to which he was very willing to take the time to walk me though the solutions.
I highly reccomend him.
