Just saw a post about sending original door panels to Al Knoch for restoration/recovering. Has anyone done this and if so, were you pleased with the results? The panels I bought 8 years ago at Bloomington (from AK)do not fit well at all and I don't know how to proceed. My originals fit fine, just look like hell!!
Basically, I recommend you contact "Art" at AK and discuss with him your concerns that tell him that another forum member who he worked with last July suggested that you take this approach. The approach I am referring to is to send in your old panels and have them build new ones from the upper metal supports of your old ones. Specifically request that they make the new panels to fit just like the old ones, including dimensions, corner appearance, hole alignment, etc.
Tim,
Thanks for the response. I don't know how I missed this in the archives. I feel much better now knowing it's not "me" in trying to get these panels to fit. The problems described in the posts are exactly what I have encountered. I will call Al Knoch Monday and see how we can get this resolved.
