    C1 - Heater Box Fit

OK.....I am re-assembling my '59 and I need some help.
In the '59 assembly manual on page B-3.00 there is shown a cover plate 3767838. Is this plate for a heater delete car or am I missing the cover plate?

In another picture on page 101-2.00 is shown the entire heater box assembly being inserted from the passenger compartment through the square hole in the firewall. What goes against the firewall, the thick foam seal or the thin steel plate with the bent ear?

Also...what bonding material or sealant goes between the heater box assembly and the firewall?

    Thanks much for your help!

Brad I believe you are correct, that plate is for heater delete cars. On my '59, against the firewall I put the foam gasket first then the thin metal plate. Hope this helps. Pat G.

The plate is shown in the A.I.M. because the heater wasn't standard equipment - it was an option (FOA 101)until 1962; if you didn't order the optional heater, you got the blockoff plate instead.

Foam seal on the firewall and then the thin plate. I then mounted the air intake from the engine side.

None--the foam provides the seal/is the seal.
