I would appreciate some advice from those with previous experience on door trim removal. I am about to strip the paint on a 67 roadster. In preperation I am removing all trim but having trouble seeing what needs to be done to remove the stainless trim bead at the top of the doors outside the windows. It appears the entire vent window assembly and the door window need to come out to get the trim piece off. Is that correct or is there a simpler way to remove this trim bead without a complete door disassembly?

Steve, Sounds like you are working on a coupe, right? Follow the procedure outlined in your shop manuel. As I remember it, you must remove everything to get to the upper window channel. When you have removed the vent window assy. and the side glass and it's lower channel you can use a screwdriver to carefully pop out the "pods" that hold the upper channel to the door. This is a nasty job, take notes or pictures as it will be a while before you put it all back together. Just remembered! The vent window assy. has a retaining screw hidden under the weatherstrip near the top of the door. Good luck! Bill- Top

Unfortunately, This a Nasty Job
But after the windows (the nasty part) are out of the door, you'll find that this bead is part of a seal ass'y that screws into the top of the window opening with a handful of tiny difficult to see flat-head Phillips head screws. Have fun!

Bill, I'm working on a roadster/conv. I guess coupe/conv may not matter for this trim piece. Can you confirm? I was hoping there was a easier way than complete door disassemly and simply masking the trim would just not cut it for me.- Top

I'm in the middle of removing the windows, channels, & fuzzies from my '66 coupe. Maybe you can help me with a question. I need to replace the front vertical fuzzy strip that nests into the front vertical channel. This vertical channel is part of the vent window system. I know there are rivets holding the fuzzy channel into the lower part of this vertical run. Are there also rivets holding the fuzzy into the upper half? I can't tell yet, since the rubber weatherstrip for the vent glass hides what's under it and I'd rather not pry at the rubber since it's in very nice condition at this point. Someone mentioned to me there might be slip over clips and not rivets along the upper half. Or are there rivets along the entire length and I'm destined to remove the rubber weatherstrip around the vent glass?

Yes, you are correct that the vent window assembly will have to be removed to get the stainless trim off in one piece. There is a screw under the forward tip of the vent window assembly that can only be accessed upon removal from the door.
You'll need to remove the vent windows anyway to get the best paint job on your Corvette.
The screws along the door stainless trim are very small philips head screws and are screwed into the doors steel frame. Have patience and use some penetrating oil on them the day before. If you round off the screw heads you will have some trouble getting them out. Using a hardened bit instead of a philips screwdriver is a good idea. Tap the bit into the screw after the penetrating oil and put plenty of pressure downward on the screw.
If you have to drill one out you will find the small philips screws are a grade 100 hardness. Not really, but it seems so when they eat bits like candy.
