I usually don't get involved in placing a monetary value on things. However, I'd say that these heads are worth between $2000-3000 for the pair. They might be worth significantly more if they have dates that would be appropriate for someone wanting to "restore" a 1969 L-88/ZL-1 or a 1971 LS-6 and needing these heads. However, these heads were manufactured and sold for MANY years in SERVICE and most of the dates on them will fall outside the range neded for "restorations".
From a performance perspective, there are much better modern heads out there, so the real value of these heads lies in their value for "restorations".
Also, these heads were never originally equipped with hardened valve seats, although many folks mistakenly think that they were. The valve seats used for both intake and exhaust on these heads are just plain, nodular cast iron. So, unless the seats in the ones that you have were changed at some point (doubtful), then this is what you have.
Watch the e-bay auctions that actually sell the item (not the posts by dreamers who have an unrealistic reserve). A good original pair with minor porting and no repairs will sell for $1200 to $1600, rarely $2000. Check your heads carefully, if they have ever been glass beaded the texture is permanently changed. You should be able to see the machining marks clearly on the ends and the intake, exhaust, and valve cover surfaces.
I have purchased several sets of heads on e-bay. I only buy those that are perfect and I quit bidding when the price goes too high. I got lucky last year with two real NOS pairs of heads for $1200 and $1600. I have also had good luck buying single heads for $400 to $600 in original takeoff condition. But then again, I also bought two 351 casting 4 bolt main blocks that were .030 over for only $400 each. (don't bother e-mailing, I have already sold them)
Like any commodity, they're worth what the market will bear and that price changes daily. To sell them for top dollar, advertise them in Hemmings or the NCRS Driveline. It may take months or years, but some sucker will eventually show up and pay HUGE $. There is a fellow in Michigan who sells heads in Hemmings for about $2400 a pair (many of his are bead blasted but otherwise nice). Another seller from Connecticut has been selling off a large stash for similar prices for years now.
So, to buy them cheap, go to e-bay, to sell them for profit, go to Hemmings or the Driveline and list them WITHOUT a price. Start too high and work your way down. It may take some time, but you will get more $ in the end.
