    69 emblems

    Hello all!,

Its great to see the DB back up!!! I was told that emblem quality ("stingray" fender emb. ,gas cap emb. etc.) can vary from place to place depending on where you buy them. This topic came up because I mentioned to a friend that I got all the body emblems for my 69 from Mid America and that they came in GM boxes so i assumed they were good quality items . My friend stated that GM didnt necessarily have the greatest chrome/quality and that other sources have better chrome/quality for their emblems. Does anyone have any experiences with sources other than GM as far as body emblems go?? Or is my friend mis- informed ? Maybe I am wrong but i just did't think emblems could be "better quality" from other than GM................TIA

    Re: 69 emblems

Hi Kenny. I can't address the quality issue as far a chrome, etc. goes, but I do know that SOME of the "Stingray" side script emblems are incorrect for 69 application. The difference is in the dot on the letter "i" in Stingray. A correct repro is available for this item. Hope this helps. Chuck

Hi Kenny with the newly bonded fenders:

The emblems vary in quality in many areas as Chuck has said the script is as he described, Another problem is the red coloring in the cross flags, there was / are correct and incorrect versions of this emblem and you will pay a different price accordingly. Don't be fooled by G.M. reproduction parts boxes, anybody paying the fee can use the logo and it doesn't mean the part is correct, even those who have purchased and used the original tooling do not necessarily finish the part as the general did.

      Best of Luck

        Re: 69 emblems

Kenny, To my knowledge there are no correct repro "stingray" side emblems. There are several differences between the originals and repro's. Atiny one is the horizontal cut line below the dot on the "i". The mounting studs on the originals are much longer than the repros. There is also a piece of compressed foam between the emblem and the car body. Look for good originals at swap meets if you are going to have your car judged. If not I blieve all the emblems are made by the same manuf. Bob

          Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the info . I WAS actually aware of the script error on the "stingray" emblem from GM. Gonna go with one of the repro's that is correct. Excellent article in the Restorer!!!
