Has anyone changed weather stripping on door pillar on a 65 convertible? I assume you just remove the 4 screws and it slides up, anything special?
Also, I need the change the rubber on the rear side of the hood, any recommendations on where to get a replacement and glue
Re: Has anyone changed weather stripping on door 1
Jim:
In addition to the screws, there are 2 small rivets per channel, which must be drilled out and removed. When buying the replacements, be sure to get the type that are pre bent (slightly bowed to match your forward window runners). The straight type channels require a lot of "massaging" to get them to fit properly.
Re: Has anyone changed weather stripping on door 1
Reproduction weatherstrip for the hood and the door pillar posts is available from most catalog houses including Corvette Central and Dr. Rebuild. Note: for a LONG time what was offered for convertible pillar posts deviated slightly from factory originals in they were too long resulting either in an 'overhang' at the top or visible evidence of your 'cutting' the tips to shorten them.
Within the last few years, 'correct' convertible reproduction pillar post weatherstipping has been offered (Corvette Central is one source). So, you should decide on your end objective (fits and works or pay more for fits, works and is closer, if not dead on, to factory original)....
On replacing the hood weatherstrip, use 3M's weatherstrip adhesive remover (most auto parts stores) to disolve the existing glue, get the old weatherstrip off and clean the lip of the hood for a fresh bond with the replacement weatherstip....
