Everyone has their preferences on paint. If you are looking for lacquer, PPG DDL 9300 is very close. If you want a more durable finish, we have used single stage Deltron 9300 flattened to eggshell gloss. Looks good and very durable if applied correctlyDick Whittington- Top

The original "paint" was not paint. It was an asphaltic coating that looked somewhat like paint. It was primarily designed to keep rust off the frame long enough for the car to be sold new. It was really not very durable, at all. You can still get it, but I don't recommend using it, at all. I'd go with a method like Dick mentioned. It looks very close to original and it's durable.
The asphaltic coating is fine for "trailer queens" that "live" in temperature and humidity-controlled environments. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Dick, Joe - can I use the same brand for my 68? Or are there better alternatives (I know, I am lazy - apologies; I could have used the search option but now that the subject is at the table..........)

Erik, the DDL 9300 is very close, if not the same, as the paint the you could buy from GM for detailing. The flattened 9300 Deltrom closely matches the gloss of the DDL. This should work for detailing at least thru 1982. I am not familiar as to what Corvette used on C-4 and up.Dick Whittington- Top
