    1969 L-88 production year breakdown

Does anyone have an idea on how many of the 116 built during the extended model year, were built using the ZL-1 head versus the L-89 style head. I know this changeover was effected after the strike and change started about June 16th 1969.

      Harold:

That's the approximate date that L88's have been seen with the exotic ZL-1 heads in place of the earlier design head. I do not have a '68-'69 TIM & JG for these years to know approximate vin's for this date.

Re: 1969 L-88 production year breakdown

We have documented 2nd design L/88's (open chamber) as early as April 1969. When the last revision of the manual was done, the thinking was about June, but since then have seen two original cars built in April. Hard to pin down the exact number, but somewhere in the low 19,000 VIN range is a good guess.

          IT vs. LO code

The closed chamber engines used the IT code. Did the April engines use the LO code or the MR code?

I thought they used the J-Lo code.

So far the ones that I have seen used the LO code. Again it is a limited sample.

                    Re: IT vs. LO code

The open chambered 4 speed cars used the LO code. I believe that the MR code was used on some the THM cars.

My L88 M40 car is an LV code, open chamber head, Aug. 69 production.

                        Re: IT vs. LO code

Jon, my guess is that the earlier M40 cars used the MR code and then was switched to LV maybe around the 22000 production #

                          MR code

Bizzoco's book showed an MR cade THM car, but I think the engine stamping date was around Dec. 1968 and the car was a later date like April or June 1969. But I can't find the book right now.
