    '67 427/400 roadster with headrests

Hello All - I am looking at a Maroon 427/400 roadster w/ headrests. The trim tag has a style code of "455BG" and the body of 988AA. I decode the body code to mean St Louis body, maroon paint. The 455 is the tuxedo interior. What does the "BG" mean? I can't find anything in the judging manual. Is there a list I can go look at? What are the other alternatives? Does this flag a counterfeit?

    Thanks,

P.S. Does anybody have a lead on a '67 roadster w/ 3x2's. I'm tired of looking at counterfeits.

    Ken----

Folks who practice the "art" of "counterfeiting" Corvettes aren't usually in the habit of adding extra codes or suspicious, non-standard inscriptions to "flag" their work as counterfeit. Usually, they try valiantly to make their work authentic-appearing in every possible way.

In any event, the two alpha-character suffix code which follows the 3 digit trim code on 1967s is very normal. The first letter of the suffix ("B") is one of several letters that denotes a convertible. I've forgotten what the second letter denotes(if I ever even knew). But, it's supposed to be there.

So, the bottom line is that the car may or may not be a "counterfeit"; either way, it would probably have the trim suffix code. Believe me, "counterfeiters" would know to put it there.

I'm no 67 expert, but I agree with Joe. These ECL (exception control letters) codes might be found in Noland's book. Basically they denote special unique "changes" in your tuxedo/black & white interior. Example: Power windows would call for a door panel without window crank holes, Headrest seats likely have different seat backs to accomodate the headrests, Air conditioned cars have a different style dash board with the center vent for the AC, etc. Noland's 63-67 book might provide your answer. The trim code remains the same, but the ECL's show modifications to it for your particular car, with its' particular options. Hope this helps. Chuck
