I am getting ready for a frame off on my 65 coupe and since this is my first attempt I have a few questions that hopefully I can get some answers to for planning. What does a coupe body weigh when it is ready to be lifted? What sort of sling arrangement would be best along with what sort of hoist. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bill

Don't know the weight, but.....
8 healthy bruisers will do the trick. No slings, just 8 dudes. That's how I got mine off. OOps, forgot, one more to push the chassy out from under the body. Make a rolling dolly for the body. Oh, don't forget a keg, brats, kraut, burgers, etc.- Top

Re: Bigger and stronger here in Maryland
Agree with George. Here in Maryland, we're bigger and stronger than the guys in Ohio, so we need only 6 lifters!! You also need a "conductor" to keep an eye on things, pick up stray shims, make sure everything is disconnected, etc, and push the chassis. I've never seen a sling used. Re: Body Removal
I have a 66 big block coupe which we pulled the body off the frame for restoration. Jerry Bramlett in Mobile, Alabama conducted and lifted my body off and put it back on with some special slings he designed. I suggest you email Jerry at Bramlett@Zebra.net for details.- Top

Re: Even Bigger and Stronger here in Texas
I guess that the "good old boys" here in Texas are even stronger. We lifted the body off my car with guys, plus one to direct and to disconnect the one thing that you will inevitably forget to disconnect. The advice to have proper refreshments is of course proper etiquette.

Re: Body Removal
Hi Bill, I had the same problem as you did with a 66 BB coupe of mine that needed a frame off. No having any strong friends, much less eight of them I thought of a way that would make it easy on me and very safe. I purchased a floor jack and about 20 dollers worth of lumber. I then proceded to unbolt all of the items that needed removal, and lifting from side to side ( only a few inches at a time ) I was able to lift the body high enough to roll out the chassie out the back end. I then droped the body on a home made dolly and was able to do all the work that needed to be done.
When the time came to mate them together again I reversed the procedure and lifted the body high enough so I was able to roll the completed chassie back under the car. You might want to install the gas tank, or at least the filler neck, after the body is reinstalled, this way you don`t have to lift the body any higher then is necessary. BTW regardless of which technique you use I would recommend that you mask your completed chassie with the transperent plastic film that you find in most of the hardware outlets. Tape it all down properly and after all the dirty work is done to the body, all that you need to do is rip off the sheeting and Voila `` you end up with a mint, and very clean frame.``
Good luck with your project. Bob :o) Your French Connection- Top
