1967 engine pulleys

I am considering adding power steering to my 67 vette. The car is a base 300 HP with no other engine options and has single groove pulleys on the crank and water pump. What pulleys are different for this option? It seems as if the 3751232 P/S pulley will fit with the single groove crank pulley but I don't know if the single crank pulley is correct with power steering. Also, is the water pump pulley changed with power steering? I have read in the archives and looked in my parts book but I can't seem to figure it out.

I put both power steering and A/C (Vintage Air) on a 67 base engine (300HP).

With power steering only, you need an add-on crank pulley which puts the power steering pulley in the third position forward on the crankshaft. No need to change the water pump pulley.

A/C uses the second position on both the crankshaft and the water pump.

I'm not sure of the power steering pulley number, as I put on aluminum pulleys on mine, a three groove on the crankshaft and a two groove on the water pump for both the P/S and A/C.

Thanks for the response to my post. I have a spare crankshaft power steering pulley # (3751232) that puts the P/S belt on the third groove but I can't figure out if the single groove crank pulley (inner pulley) is also changed to the double groove. I don't know why it would be but I thought I read somewhere that the single is replaced with double groove. If you have a judging manual for a 67 let me know if it states anything about this as I only have a 63 judging guide. Thanks again, Tim

The base 327/300 crank pulley is a single groove for the #1 track (closest to the engine), and remains in place; the add-on power steering crank pulley positions the power steering pump belt two grooves forward to the #3 track.

I'm looking at a small block p.s. conversion kit on ebay. I think the cast iron pulley shown is not correct for a 327, (350HP NO AIR). It's hard to tell looking at the back of it Would someone mind looking at it and tell me what they think(assuming you have nothing better to do). Item#4528943585...Thanks

The judging guide says that an L-79 350 hp, used a double groove cast iron power steering pulley, natural finish. The base engine used a single groove stamped steel, semi-gloss black.

If you are thinking about buying one, do a price comparison with the various venders. I got a kit from CC for about the same price although I had to wait a long time for delivery. For the guaranteed delivery on this item, it might be worth it.

If the JG says that a DOUBLE GROOVE power steering pump pulley was used for L-79 applications, then the JG is incorrect. NO Corvette small block EVER used a double groove power steering pump pulley. Some Corvette applications did use a SINGLE GROOVE cast iron power steering pump pulley. All Corvette double groove power steering pump pullies were used for BIG BLOCKS ONLY.

If the Judging Guide is incorrect, is there a procedure to correct it? I also have a couple of other things in the JG unrelated to this issue. My add-on power steering to a base engine 67, has the single groove pressed steel power steering pump pulley. Even the AIM is very confusing on this issue. Is there a different part number for the L-79 350HP power steering pulley then the base engine power steering pulley for a base engine. If the JG is incorrect, it ought to be changed.

Maybe I ought to bring back the Holley 3139-1 issue as a substitute for a 3810 in late (July) 67 327's. I now have one of each and they are nearly identical except for the fuel bowls and adjustible floats on the 3139-1. The 3139-1 is much closer to the 3367.

I believe that base engine with p/s, with or without A/C, used a stamped steel, single groove power steering pump pulley of GM #3770509.

L-79 with p/s used a cast iron, single groove power steering pump pulley of GM #3834720.

All big block engines used a 2 groove, cast iron power steering pump pulley of GM #3878245. The 3878245 was the only power steering pulley used for ALL 1965-74 Corvettes with big block.

Suggested change to the JG 1967

page 125, under Power Steering, Option N40, if equipped - Pulleys - Small Block, delete the first two sentences and replace with:

The base engine with p/s, with or without A/C, used a stamped steel, single groove power steering pump pulley of GM #3770509, painted semi-gloss black. The L-79 350HP with p/s used a cast iron, single groove power steering pump pulley of GM #3834720 with a natural finish. A sheet metal belt guard ........

I just purchased a PS conversion kit from a member that advertises in Driveline
in the "Parts For Sale" section. The kit comes with everything but the belt and fluid and the installation is straight forward and worth the effort. This person is much cheaper than any other conversion I have seen. My car is a 67/300hp also.Good Luck, Bill #20328
