    63 Transmissions

What was the transition date(s) from the Borg-Warner 4-speed to the Muncie 4-speed for the 1963? The only information that I can find list mid 1963.

    Thanks for any help!

The Munice was introduced around S/N 14,500. This would be around the first week of May or so.

          Harry,

I can trim it a little closer. I had 14,451 and it had the original Muncie installed. Coupe, AM/FM,4speed, 300HP, Sebring Silver/Black.

          I've also had 8729 and 10,365 both with T-10's.

          Regards,

          JR

            Re: 63 Transmissions

My '63 convertible was 00947 and it had the original T10. Of course, that early, it had to be a T10 and doesn't help the survey at all.

It was about the only thing that was original on it.

My '63 coupe 00033 didn't have a transmission, or much of anything for that matter. It was Daytona blue with the dark blue interior, A1 date and body 22 for who was doing the survey, PS, manual brakes, and a manual transmission. Not much else is known.

              Mike,
I am compiling a '63 list as you might remember and number 033 is listed 3 times in my survey!!
Someone was selling a convert about 4-5 years ago that claimed to be serial #33. I double checked with the seller and he claimed that it was a Red/Red roadster (#33) with a 300, 4speed, hard and soft top, with ps/pb/and power windows.
I have doubted this claim ever since!

I also recorded #33 from a Restorer article! It was said to be a Sebring Silver Coupe.

My third entry for serial 33 is as you describe, a Blue/Blue Coupe with ps and a 4speed. I will put your entry as the authentic one with the others as a footnote untill proven otherwise.

Your Roadster #0947 is also on my list!
Sometime awhile back, the original papers turned up for this car. It is on my list as being a White/Blue roadster with a 4speed and metallic brakes.

              J.R.,
I did not have your coupe #14,451 on my list but I will enter it. The other 63's you mentioned are listed as you described to me in the past.

My '63 Coupe, #15,240, appears to have a BW transmission. I guess its time to further investigate!

                Syd,

I stated the SN wrong and this might help your case for the BW-T10 in your Vette. My SN was 15,451 instead of the stated 14,451. Getting old you know and that's my excuse. Looked it up. By the way, do you have the survey taken by Larry D. Brooks? May have asked before-you know how part-timers effects us old people.

                Regards,

                JR

My 63 15099 has a muncie. The trans is original, I bought the car from the original owner. FYI

                      Hi JR,
                      Great to contact you!
Yes, I do have your #15,451 listed (Barwick). Thanks for saving me the audit!

A fellow member, a gentleman to say the VERY least, forwarded the old Larry Brooks registry, from the late seventies or there about I believe, to me awhile back. I have since incorporated Larry's survey into my listing with a note for each entry showing that it came from Larry's work.

JR, you will be glad to know that my listing now stands with info on over 1,700 1963's!!

I somehow believe that my coupe must have been delivered with a Muncie trans originaly. From everything that I have read or heard word from word of mouth, this was the better of the two.

                      Best regards,
                      Syd

Anyone wanting to add to this 1963 list please feel free to contact me!

                          Syd,
Curiousity forces me to ask. Do you have #806 listed? I owned it through most of the '70s. All I have left of it is memories, a few photos and the gas cap door spring clip.

                            Hi Bernie,
No, I did not have car #806 entered onto my list.
Could you please either send me an email with the cars info, or tell me here what the body type was for this car, colors both exterior and interior, engine hp and trans, and also any other options that you remember it had.
I will enter this cars information onto the list with a note that it was last seen toward the end of the 70's and is recorded as 'information only'.

Hey, I bet you can get a record sum for your spring clip on eBay after reading what the air cleaner wing nut went for!

                            Thanks Bernie!

Coupe. I purchased it used in 1973. Originally white with red interior. Black with red interior when I parted with it in 1979. Base motor with 4 speed. AM/FM radio, P/S. The gas door clip is rusty, mangled and missing the roller; probably not worth more than $500 at current rates.
