My 1966 with original paint after sitting in the sun for a few minutes shows an oily substance seeping out through tiny cracks in the paint surface. Area is the top of both front fenders towards the windshield. Substance is colorless and odorless. Underneath the fenders is completely dry. What is it? What do I do to get rid of it before repainting?

Re: oily stuff seeping out from under paint
Chris I had the same thing on my '69. I had a local vette shop touch up the area. He said the fiberglass was soaked with oil at one time (engine blow by). You definetly have to get it all out or it will come back. The hot sun brings it out more/faster.- Top

Re: oily stuff seeping out from under paint
Sound like it been contaminated by something. Have seen this many times to various degrees. Many AC cars get oil soaked under the hood and it comes through the paint. Sometimes spray penetrating oil goes through. There are many possibilities. You may soak wipe and clean with lacquer thinner, but I wouldn`t guarantee the results. You may grind the surface and lay fiberglass on it as a barrier. You could prime with a good gelcoat. All three would be best. Good luck.- Top
