Thank you all very much for the advice. I'm finally going to retire the old Olympus OM77. A lot of places don't even sell film anymore!

Re: re digital camera advice.................
Why retire such a modern camera? I am still using OM-1's, 2's and OM-4's
Really, it is time for all to consider digital. I just hate to hang up all those faithful cameras along with my Bronica GS-1 that all have served me so well for over 25 years.Dick Whittington- Top

I finally gave up on film a couple of years ago, and donated my bag full of old Nikons (F3, FG) and Nikkor lenses, Speedlites, and accessories, filters, etc. (and a Rollei and a 4x5 Speed Graphic) to my alma mater's Photographic History course; sold my Beseler enlargers, print dryers, etc. many years ago. Technology marches on...- Top

Re: re digital camera advice.................
I still like film.I use digital at work & my wife has one, but I still like my old nikon. In fact I looking at buying a new F6..I read that less than 10% of all digital pictures taken ever reach paper.Just think if all the old Corvette plant & old racing photos & the old pictures of the original owner of some 57 or 62 standing next to his "new" car never made it to paper. At .29 cents each Ill take my film to walgreens and have boxes of memories for me and whoever looks at them when I croak. My computor ,CDs & floppys will be in the basement next to my 8 tracks.- Top

You didn't mention Canon, so I guess I'll hang on to my FTB. It's heavy because there are no cheap plastic parts inside. I also love the great optics of these old Canon and Nikon lenses. Sorta like an old Vette!!!

Right-on, Bill
A quality film SLR gives the digital resolution equivalent of about 30-40 Megapixels, so it'll be years yet before the high-dollar digital cameras come close to what you get with good old 35mm, or larger, film formats.
Up here in eskimoland, a 24 exposure roll of 400 ASA costs about $ 2.80 (if bought in packs of 5). Developing is $ 5.50/roll including double 4 x 6" glossies, AND a CD of ~300 kB jpegs of each shot. No way you can beat the price and definition.
That said, I sorely need a digital camera for eBay sales, part numbers, Tech Board discussions, documentation of all sorts, etc. The one digital feature that film can't match is that you see the results immediately, (shoot another if not satisfied).- Top

I'm definitely getting a digital camera. However, I'll never give up my Nikon FA. That's a "keeper", even if I also get the Nikon F100 that I have my heart set on. My digital will most likely be a Nikon, too, and of the "pocket size" variety. I don't think you can beat a Nikor lens, no matter how much you spend (of course, some of the Nikor lenses are not exactly what one would call "cheap", either). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
