    C - 2 63 - Production Numbers

Would any know how many 63 Coupes where made with the following options?

    Saddle
    Saddle Leather
    340 HP
    Power Windows
    Power Brakes
    Metallic Brakes
    AM/FM
    411 Axle
    White Wall Tires
    4 Speed

My car was produced March 29th.

Jim, can't tell you, but you have a car built with one of the first AM/FM radios. You VIN sequence should be somewhere around 11768. If you ever pulled the radio, the radio Identification Number will probably be close to 86-FMA-0001.

    Let us know.

No records were kept of volumes for all the many possible combinations of styles, colors, and options; only of individual items.

Harry, my car is thousands of Vin numbers earlier never taken apart before I purchased it (3 owner car)and I have a factory AM/FM radio. How are you comming up with your numbers?

Mike, from what I have seen and from what research I have done, VIN sequence 11768 is where AM/FM radios started as normal production in 63. Also, best I can tell everything production for retail sales prior to that was AM. The 63 AM/FM radio was number 985686. The tag on the radio for the first AM/FM would have carried a radio identification number of 86-FMA-0001. As an example, VIN Sequence number 13356 has radio 86-FMA-1594. 13356 minus 1594 equals VIN Sequence number 11762. Taking into consideration very few radio delete cars 11768 feels correct.

Also, the 11768 number is a point of reference in Nolan's book, page 162, where they went into full production. With what I found I think it's correct. There were a few installed prior to that number, but just a handfull.

If your car is "thousands of VIN numbers earlier", it has THE WRONG RADIO. AM-FM radios were NOT SHIPPED to St Louis until March 1.

Harry, you may be the only person in

the world that actually beieves AM-FM radios were installed on a first in first out basis.

Loren, I did not indicate the First-in First-out methodology, I'm not sure how you copuld assume I did. I have an examples for later years where it is quite the reverse.

                    Harry,

My vin# is 11800, can I read the numbers off the radio without removing it?

                    Thanks,

                    Jim

Jim, possibly. Sometimes it was stuck to the side (right or left), but many times it was on the front.
