    62 bell housing

    Guys,
On 62 base engine is the entire bell housing generally entire painted orange or is the lower portion (sheet metal bottom and inspection cover) black?

I would assume if the lower area of the bell has no orange then the sheet metal bottom and inspection cover would be black. Or if painted then every thing is orange, at least oversprayed orange.

    Gene -

The bellhousing (and the clutch fork) were on the engine when it was painted, and the bellhousing will show at least some orange paint along its front edge - coverage varied widely.

lower cover and plate through which starter mounts were painted independently of the assembly. Bell housing, as per the judging manual, can be completely painted or partially so. As the guy in the Flint engine plant told me in 1978 when I asked that very question "depends on the day and the mood of the painter. Bellhousing might be totally painted, or it's possible that parts of the block are still bare, and anything in between."
