    Louis-----

To restore the original finish on these you'll need to strip off all of the existing finish. Then, you'll have to apply a phosphate finish followed by oiling. It's a lot of trouble, though, and this piece is still available new from GM for about 4 bucks, GM list, each. It's still available under the original part number, too, and is identical to the originals. GM #3790342 is what you want.

Louis - As Joe mentioned, they are still available from the General, but unless your dealer stocks them you might have to buy a package of 10. Pete

          Pete-----

This particular part is supplied 1 per package.

Also, I forgot to mention earlier, when these retainers are used, one should also use bushing GM #3790341. These are also still available from GM and are packaged 1 to a package.

You can use the standard shock bushings with the 3790342 retainers. However, the best installation is obtained using the 3790341 bushings which are designed for use with the 3790342 retainers.
