    Electrical problem

    Hi all.

I have never had a vet before and I just bought my first one. A C5 2001 and I love it.

I washed it for the first time on the weekend using a bucket and sponge, followed by a rinse with a moderate pressure hose. I did not put the hose anywhere near the engine bay, but I did I hose under the wheel arches reasonably agressively.

When I went to open the back hatch, I found that the keyless entry device would not activate it. In fact it did not open the car and did not activate the lights and horn either as usual.

When I tried to start the car, the engine would turn over but not start. Also, as soon as I tried to start the car the guages all went quickly to their maximum value, and then dropped back to zero again. Several messages then appeared, such as, 'reduced engine power, 'check tyre pressure', 'get car service', etc.

After leaving the car with the battery dissconnected for about six hours (I had to go out, and the lights in the car would not go out so I dissconnected the battery to stop it going flat), the car started fine and everything was normal. We did try dissconnecting the battery previous to this to see if it would reset the computer (only for about 30-60 seconds though), but it had no effect.

Normally I would have thought (quite obviously) that I had got water into something I shouldn't have (perhaps the sensor that works with the keyless entry device????). I was, however, gentle with the hose and if water got into something I would expect to have the same fault if I drive the car in the rain which would be a bummer.

I would appreciate any advice on this matter.

    Thanks

    Russell

    Re: Electrical problem

Hi Russell and welcome to the NCRS Forum. This forum is dedicated to the restoration of Corvettes and those that like to do so. Your Corvette is much too new to be a candidate for restoration so very few of the members of this forum will have experience with 5th generation Corvettes. The electrical and computer advancements in the C5 are more than most of us handle at this particular time. Perhaps you would be better served to check out corvetteforum.com, or corvetteactioncenter.com.

Both of these forums have C5 sections that deal exclusively with the 5th generation Corvette. Welcome to the world of Corvette enthusiasts and remember to wave at every Corvette you see regardless of year, condition, or driver.

    Save the Wave!!!
