63 FI Dist. Shield Grounding Clip

I've had this problem for years. Just recently came to my attention again.

In the back of the 63 chrome distributor cover are 2 slots, one marked FI, the other marked CARB. Into these slots go specific clips, which are ground clips. They should go down and touch the gnurled nut on the tach cable.

Refer to the picture. You see the tach cable exiting. Looking "north" on the chrome shield, you see a slot. That is the slot marked FI. The slot marked CARB is further "north" and not visible in the picture.

Problem....when I insert the FI ground clip, it doesn't even come CLOSE to touching the tach cable. It's at least 1 inch off. I've had many of these clips fall off over the years because of this.

What is wrong? I've got the "correct" 63 dist. shield, the correct distributor, and a supposedly correct repro FI grounding clip. The bottom of the distributor is "fixed" in the FI cars and it can't rotate. Any help appreciated. TIA. Chuck (my first attempt to post a pic on this DB)

Hi Jimmy. Yes, it goes in "backwards", but when the clip is mounted properly in that orientation, it still won't touch the tach cable/gnurled nut. Chuck
