    1962 Master Cylinder

I need a master cylinder for a March build !962 Corvette. I am looking at a 5456022 p/n master cylinder with July 1961 build date. Would this be correct foy my car?

    Thanks,

    Hank

    Re: 1962 Master Cylinder

    Hi Hank,
I am waiting on a correct one for my 58 & it was sent yesterday or today. When I have it replaced I will let you know. I'll go & see if I can seee the numbers. I can't use it because it has the large 022. In 58 you needed a small.Send me an email with your # so I can get back in touch with you.

      Hank--
Who is telling you that it is a July 61 build date? Most of those large 022 master cylinders, as mentioned in the 61-62 judging manual, have job lots or indecipherable letter/number sequences. I've judged 62's since 77, and have never judged dates on those, nor has any judging team that I have captained. If it truly is a July 61 date, then it is at least three months too early for your car.

Would the cast date code be judged on the

Master Cylinder for 63's? I assumed because it is fairly easy to read with an inspection mirror that judges look it over.

        thanks,

Re: Would the cast date code be judged on the

Sometimes the date codes on these MC's are SO faint or 'smudgey' (poor 'fill' during the casting process) that they're almost impossible to read even with the cylinder off the car, cleaned up and in your hands under an illuminated magnifying glass! Verifying the casting date on the MC is the judge's perrogative and I've seen more than one senior judge look, look, look with an inspection mirror + flashlight and finally give up trying to fully verify the casting date and 'give' the owner the benefit of the doubt...
