    harness plastic connectors

Anybody know where to buy the various plastic connectors used with the spade terminals on the wiring harness. I would rather restore my harness than buy a repop. I assume they are original mftg by Packard Electric. The only other option I have is the junk yard but they are far and few between on 50's & 60's stuff. I have an urgent need for the mid year tail lite 1/4 turn with the rubber boots.

You might try Painless or M & H. I struck out with Lectric Limited when I was looking for them.

      Gene...

If Lectric Limited does not have the connector you are looking for, You might try Pioneer Standard Electronics, which was the original Dist. for Packard connectors. There are many reasons why you can purchase an old harness and not the loose connectors. My recommendation is, buy the harness. Unless you have the correct crimp tools or good at soldering, a lot of time can be wasted, just to have a short somewhere else in the harness.

Many are still available from Packard (now a part of Delphi) and that's where those who build reproduction wiring harness products get a lot of their connectors from. BUT, some are so low volume in nature that Packard requires you order a run of 500-10,000 in order to re-mount the tooling. Still, others are long gone and neither the original tooling exists to build them and/or the material they were made from is now banned from use (lots of these were originally made from PCB which is now classed as a known carcinogen).

In these cases, the repro wiring houses have to research and acquire 'look-alike' substitute materials, invest in reverse-engineering tooling, and/or manufacture the parts outside the US. When you contact one of the reproduction wiring houses, expect a 'cool' reception to your request to purchase individual connectors...

They see this as a loss of repro harness sales (which it is), a nuissance (true again), and a potential loss of 'proprietary' intellectual property. Good luck!

Hi Gene.....how's things in the North country?? I have several old harness' from years ago, still dig into them once in a while (some of these old Fords even have them now!) and might have what you need - price is REAL right also. Email me with your needs and see what we can come up with. Too bad you are so far away...another great Carolinas Chapter Meet coming up in March, believe you would enjoy! Regards, Bob.

You might try Auveco the nut/bolt auto industry supplier. I have bought some conecctors etc that is very close to original 56 parts. Matter of fact they are referenced as GM supplied parts. They have an on line catalog. However they can only be bought from an auto parts house like Car Quest or unless one is able to get qualified to buy direct.
