If you have a 69 and your mechanic is reaching up behind the dash to "...unscrew the tach and speedo cables...", then something is wrong. 69's used snap-on style cables at the instruments.

        Joe,
Mine is a '70 but I was not aware that '69s were that way. I assumed they were the same but I guess they were carry overs from the '68s. Thanks. I'm still learning. That's why I read messages, responses, and post inquiries.

As far as I know, 1970s used the snap-on tach and speedo cable ends, too. I believe that most did from 1969 onward. This is at the intrument end only. The distributor or transmission end was always screw-on type.

Oh my God - what have I done ...

I was in the States several times and realized that there are regional differences in the language. But it sounds that you have as many dialects as we have in Germany, too (reminds me to Bavarian, Saxon and ... German).

OK, I changed the dashboard on the "hard" way. When everything was stripped from the car I replaced the harness. Then I put the left dashbord back and tried to connect all things. The instrument bulbs were the big problem: some metal retainer got loose and the bulbs felt into the instruments. So I had to do this job several times ...
Today I will assemble the middle console (around the shifter) and park brake console. Pray to God that everything works ...

Now gentlemen I'll go to my nurse to medicate my wounds ;-)

Thank you for that "funny" discussion

              Reba -

That's why the guys in Final Repair (after the car came off the line) who dealt with under-dash electrical and A/C repairs drank a lot...
