    61 Neutral Safety Switch

The part number I have for a 1961 Neutral Safety switch is 1993520.
I had someone suggest that the 1962 Switch is the same as 1961 but it has a different part number so, therefore, I presume it's not the same switch.
Question: can anyone provide the CORRECT part number for a 1961 Neutral Safety Switch for sure? Is the number above correct?
    Thanks.

    Norm-----

GM #1993520 is the original and correct part number for the 1961 Corvette with Powerglide neutral start safety switch. The 1962 switch was GM #1993566.

The GM #1993520 switch was discontinued without supercession in July, 1972 and was never replaced by the 1962 switch. The 62 switch was discontinued in September, 1986.

Will the 1962 switch be a functional replacement for the 1961 switch? That I couldn't tell you. However, the GM information implies that it cannot.

The 61 was still a cast iron trans and any switch from 53 to 61 will work.
The 62 was a aluminum trans and used a different switch.

As Roy says, The switches are not interchangeable. If you have an old, non-functioning switch, they can be disassembled and repaired very easily. They are getting very hard to come by, and if you don't have an old one to rebuild, try Mary Jo Rohner, she usually has a couple in stock. Drop me an Eamil for more help repairing yours, if you have one. These switches almost never truly go bad. They only serve pilot duty for the relay, and usually are just a little corroded on the contacts from water inside the switch, and can be taken apart, cleaned up and made to work like new.

I Have a NOS 58-60 (660) last three #'s and have compared them to the one used on the 1961 and I see no difference. The 62 is a different bird and wiring configuration is different. In all my 38 years of working on these cars I have never seen a NOS 1993520. john
