Anyone Thinking About A 2006 Corvette?

I would like to gage interest in a possible "group buy" of 2006 Corvettes toward the end of the year, maybe November or December. This "group" would be understood to have nothing in common with the NCRS beyond the driving and enjoyment of Corvettes, and no relationship with the NCRS would be inferred to anyone in any way.

My objective is to get pricing near dealer invoice, and I figure the more Corvettes a dealer can sell in a package (within reason), the more likely it will be to get that pricing. Once the selling dealer commits to a given level of pricing, say invoice + $$$, each member of the "group" would be responsible for arranging financing (and courtesy delivery if desired), and contacting the dealer to specify preferred options and sign the papers. Delivery options would include delivery to the ordering dealer, courtesy delivery to a dealer near you, or museum delivery (Option RC8, $490). I expect little change in the car from 2005.

Email me if you're interested and I'll keep a list. A buddy and I have been planning this for a few months. Some initial dealer contacts have been made, but there is nothing definite at this point.

I think you need to contact a dealer to see the viability of this plan. The C6 is limited production and that production is usually sold out. Dealers get an allocation of vehicles based upon what they sold the previous year. This is usually less than what they want or need so they are reluctant to offer significant discounts. Any excess production is usually held by the factory to barter with the dealer to move other products.

For example if the factory needs to move Impalas they will offer the dealer increased allocation of Corvettes if they increase their order of Impalas. The only time you can get a good discount on a vette is at a model changeover like just occurred from C5 to C6 and demand slows down or if a dealer has a significant decline in sales from one year to the next.

Tony, everything is for sale at a price...the only thing left to do is to determine that price. Dealers will deal on Corvettes...I have already heard of some discounts in the $4K-$5K range...you just have to find those dealers. Forget MSRP or "Availability Premiums"; there will be snowball fights in hell before that happens to me.

While Corvette production is limited, it is pretty much limited by what the market segment will absorb. There are mega "Corvette" dealers that can have dozens of Corvettes waiting on the lot waiting to be matched with buyers. This is not as true now as it was for the late C5s, but toward the end of the year, the initial C6 intro excitement will have waned somewhat.

Those Corvettes on the lot (allocations) could just have easily been pre-sold by ordering specifically for an identified customer. They will not be giving these cars away; they will be making a profit...just not $7K-$8K per car. My objective is to relieve those dealers of that customer-finding anxiety, help him make a profit and increase his future alloctions.

If we are able to develop buying power as a group, I get a new Corvette for reasonable money; if not, there's always next year (or a very nice, depreciated C5). Email me if your interested; I'll keep you advised as details develop.

Chuck, Here in Ohio you can buy a new C-6 for Supplier Cost. They are stacking up on the lots big time! The C-6...at least here is not selling well.

              Hi,

If I could buy a C6 for what you are paying in the States I wouldn't even bother. To give you an idea a naked C6 (no options) cost 87500 euro in the Netherlands. That is more than $100.000!!!

              greetings,
              Rob.

                Bingo!

Northern dealerships are having to compete against the weather. Not many people are interested in making big monthly payments on something they can't use until the roads are clear and clean. It's a seasonal thing; watch what happens when stuff begins to bloom and the "sap" (and pricing) begins to rise. Even now, I doubt dealers are volunteering to sell at their invoice; it's probably still like wrestling with God to get that deal.

In the warmer climes, like Texas, California, and Florida, dealers are still asking MSRP plus "availability mark-ups". They're counting on the local walk-in impulse buyers to bring in bags of money for the priviledge...Most people never heard of courtesy delivery.

C 6 vettes already at dealer auctoins

The new corvettes are already selling at gm auctions with as little as 200 miles on them. July or August you may even see rebates on leftover new stock. The C 6 is all new but GM marketing is still the same. Chuck are you doing this on the Z06. I would be in on ordering a new Z06.If any of you have dealer friends, ask them to pull the manheim gm factory results for you from across the country. Some C 6 cars are selling in the low 40s.......

Re: C 6 vettes already at dealer auctoins

Curtis, several folks have indicated interest in a 2006 Z06. The direction of my inquiries until now have been toward the coupe/convertible models. By the end of the year, the C6 body style (convertible came on slow) will have been available for almost a year and a half; the Z06, on the other hand, will have just been introduced.

I told some folks I thought the Z06 would be available in May...further research indicates that dealers (some, not all) will be offered allocation in mid-May. Allocation assignment will be finalized in June, and the car will actually start production July 25. The other 2006 models start production September 9.

Production of Z06s is expected to be 15-20% of the total build, with a total capacity for 32K-35K cars...actual production should be estimated using recent yearly build numbers rather than capacity. There is also pent-up demand...I've heard of waiting lists around 125 or more for one dealer, and growing. Bottom Line: Buying a Z06 cheap is going to be problematical for awhile. Email me if you want on the list; I'll be checking out Z06 possibilities shortly (My curiosity is aroused. )
