I am in the process of changing out the buckle tops from a set of CS-5000's I bought for the '62, since the originals have a bit more 'patina' than I'd prefer. Of course, I didn't get very far into the disassembly when I got stuck. One must drive out a small pin which holds the 4 spring-loaded plates in the male buckle top; these plates engage the rectangular hole in the male buckle. See the arrowhead-annotated picture if the description doesn't make sense. In any case, I don't see how to get this pin out (which appears to be flared a bit at its ends) without trashing it. Does anyone have a hint or some BTDT experience? Once these are back together they're headed to Ssnake-oyl for re-webbing. Thanks!

Re: seatbelt help
Rob,
I'm not sure about those pins, but I had Ssnake Oyl disassemble my seatbelts completely. They look awesome and they had the correct bright blue webbing and colored retractor covers for my 67 coupe. They can even replate if need be.

Re: seatbelt help
It appears the pin has a light upset from being center-punched.
Before I tossed the buckles, one option would be to use a pin punch (1/16" diameter?), and if you have good straight-in access, simply drive the pin out through the other side (brute force finesse). An even better approach might be to use the existing center punch as a pilot to drill the upset off the end, then drive the pin out. Use a new, sharp drill, and apply minimal pressure...if the drill wanders off the pin, that soft buckle material will be badly boogered in a New York minute. Having gotten the old pin out, how do you plan to keep the new one in?
Of course, the easiest option (but not the cheapest) is to simply send them to Snake-oyl, like Justin said, and let them worry with it.- Top
