i read the message and replys to the 71 bb water pump on 02-23 and im still not sure which water pump would be correct for my car my engine build date is 05-27-70 Joe Lucia listed in his reply that casting #3940960 (L69-70) was one of four pumps used in this era.in the TIMJG this casting # is not even listed. any clarification would be appreciated

I feel very confident that the 3940960 casting would have been used on your late 1970 engine. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that the 3992077 could have been used but I highly doubt it. I'd also say that the chances that the GM #3856284 casting was used is near zero.
