I'm om the way to change the rear end of my 1970 big block corvette (3.08 to 3.55). Now I have remarked that the HD yokes are extremely bent. As a consequence the u-joint is hardly to turn if the caps are installed. I think I should replace these yokes. Does anybody have a good advice for a replacement unit. Sould I use reconditioned ones (GM), new ones (replacements) or the known black ones "aircraft quality steel" which are offerded from several corvette parts suppliers? thanks for your notes.

The u-joint saddle of the yokes (stub axles) rarely distort. However, the u-joints as installed in the half shafts may be very tight. So, if you're sure that the "stiffness" that you're experiencing is actually in the u-joint-to-yoke part of the joint rather than the u-joint-to-half shaft part of the joint, then, I suppose, you may have an unusual problem with the yokes.
The rebuilt GM stub axles with a through-hardened button installed on the end are an excellent repair. They will provide more service than you'll ever need. However, if you want to replace the yokes, I'd recommend the ones manufactured by International Axle of Dayton, MN. These are the "black" ones. They're expensive, but they're the best. Hands down. If I were going to use new replacement yokes these are the only ones that I'd use.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
