I'm trying to drop the gas tank on my 73 Coupe. One of the first steps calls for removing the boot around the filler neck and then the drain line off the boot. I can't see any obvious way to remove the boot. Is the fuel cap attachment ring like a bung that needs to be tapped on to unscrew? It appears that the boot is just underneath the fuel cap ring. Thanks for any help.

First, you need to remove the fuel filler door bezel. Next, pull the periphery of the boot (seal) out of the filler door opening. Lastly, (with the fuel cap removed, of course), stretch the boot over the fuel filler neck, That's all there is to it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The boot and the drain line can stay on the tank until it is removed. Remove the clamp on the drain line to the frame. The boot can be sliped over the neck with the cap off. WD-40 on the boot and neck will help in getting it off. Make sure you remove the small hose on both ends of the tank to the metal lines before you try to drop the tank. LyleLyle
