    Re: removing under coating

Dick there are several things that will remove the undercoating. I have used "varsol", VM&P Naptha (sp), spray carb cleaner, enamel reducer, etc. Be very careful with the solvents as they are either flammable or give off toxic vapors, or both. Be sure and wear gloves(you don't want to wear undercoating for the next week), adequate ventilation, and eye protection. I would be careful about getting the solvents on the exterior paint also. I always used a sheet of plastic (at least 6 mil) on the floor underneath the car to aid in cleanup

      Re: removing under coating

      Dick,
There is lots of info on this in the archives and it would be worth going back and reading all of it. I did a 72 last winter and it was much worse than anyone could imagine. I used kerosene and paint remover.
I found that you could not remove undercoating from the frame or any item w/ asphalstic based paint as the kerosene will remove the frame paint too. It was surprisingly gentle on dip painted parts and left all that paint intact very well. Disassembly will make the job somewhat easier if you can go that route. I used a 4 post lift, latex gloves, drip pans, old clothes etc. Apply the kerosene w/ a spray bottle or a paint buush and stay with it. I promised myself I would never do it again but once was truly a Corvette experience.
      Good Luck.

For smaller areas you can use Brake Parts Cleaner, it works great! However if doning large areas - cost wise you'll be better with the kerosene solution. Yes make sure you have fresh air. Have Fun.
