    GMpartsdirect

Has anyone besides Tony Hurtado dealt with GMpartsdirect? He seems to be able to get them to reply to his emails but they won't answer mine. I have sent four emails requesting various information on a crankshaft I want to buy and they won't respond to any of them. No telephone number either. The only response I did get was when I asked them if there was another method of payment besides credit cards. I couldn't find an address to mail a check or money order either.

    Thanks,
    Scott

I am not totally sure, but somehow I think that GMPartsDirect is a subsidiary of Flow Chevrolet in Winston Salem, NC

Thanks, Dick. Somewhere in the back regions of my 57 year old mind I think I recall the relation.

I've had much better luck dealing with my local BUICK dealer. The guy at the parts counter gives me better prices than GMparts direct once shipping is factored in. The local Chevy dealership doesn't want to deal with me. I am always surprised how much discretion the parts counter guys have in pricing.

I don't want to deal with the Chevrolet dealers here either. Vultures. I called them and gave them the crankshaft number Tony Hurtado supplied and after their quote including shipping I began a quest to find it lesser expensive. But, maybe I'll just stroll into one of the local dealerships and ask the parts counter guy rather than by telephone. That way they can actually see my knees buckle.
            Thanks for your information.

I just recvd. a part from Flow. They beat every price I could get by 50+ dollars. Vultures to say the least. One local dealer gets 20% over list.

Thanks, Dennis! This NCRS board is sweet. It's like when I used to get autographs from sports celebrities...I've stepped up to the pros.

Like Brian Monticello said, it doesn't have to be a Chevy dealer...try other local GM dealers if you have the part number. Most of these young whippersnappers behind the counter now were born yesterday, and think they know it all...Give them a seven digit part number and they think you made it up.

I found PartsDirect's handling and shipping charges to be outrageous, eating up any savings over local retail prices. I have had good luck with old part numbers at Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet in Lubbock, TX (see link)...but you will still have to pay the freight

One thing to keep in mind with gmpartsdirect and other sites is that the price quoted is often at or near the dealer net. They must make their money on shipping and handling and volume. If nothing else its a good reference on the net price if you end up going to the local dealer.

                        Re: GMpartsdirect

Jim, I sure didn't. My apologies. I got so driven to get one that I forgot about your lead and followed Chuck's advice and went with Scoggins-Dickey in Lubbock. They had the crankshaft in stock, 454 forged steel externally balanced, for $659 which included tax and shipping. It is already at the rebuilder's and work has commenced on the rebuild. Without the assistance I have gotten from this NCRS board and members I would still be on the starting blocks.
GMpartsdirect has yet to answer any of my five or six emails but I sent them a thank you today thanking them for forcing me to find a more reliable supplier.

I order all my GM parts from www.gmotors.com which is a Cadillac dealer in jacksonville, FL. They sell at a percentage over cost and do not kill you on shipping. I have been very, very pleased with them.
