On a frame off resto, should all the various nuts and bolts be painted or is there some kind of clear coat i can put on them to keep them from rusting.

Mike, Almost none of the nuts, bolts or washers were originally painted. Many were cad/zinc plated and that gave reasonable protection from rust. On the items not plated, I would clean with a wire brush on a grinder and then give them a light coat of dull satin clear if you live where rust is an everyday issue. If judged, paint or obvious clear will likely cause a small deduction. Best, Dennis
