I am rebuilding a 1955 vette fuel guage and float system. Question: When assembling the guage unit back into the guage cluster container, should the metal plate on the circuit board touch the metal container thereby grounding itself?? I think not but I am not sure when I reassemble the guage cluster.

Re: 1955 fuel guage
Don--
I don't have a 55 gauge nearby (up in the barn, but comfortably in the dash), but I checked a 62 gauge in the garage, and it confirmed for me that you do need the paper/fiber insulator between the back of the gauge itself and the metal gauge container.
With all due respects to Roy, the gauge is electrical, as is the gauge sending unit; therefore you really don't want it shorting/grounding terminals against the back of the unit.- Top
