The code needs to be AN on the casing (3:70 posi, 58-60, 4 speed) and according to the NCRS judging manual a 3:55 posi was not made for corvette, jusr for powerglide.
If you are still interested in a correct rearend for your car, you might try Darrell Shepherd. He is not cheap, but he has quite the inventory of dated and rebuilt transmissions and rearends. He might also work out a swap with you for your old unit. I swapped an incorrect T-10 transmission from my 59 that needed to be rebuilt for a correctly dated one he rebuilt. I am not suggesting it was an even swap. I still sent him a sizeable check with my old tranny. But I was happy with what he sent me. Regards, - Kevin
