Who says there are no dumb questions?

I can't find the holes to re-attach my horns. I can see the approxamate area in the AIM but can find any holes for bolts. My hood and grill are on so I might need to remove something. Can somebody give me a specific location where they belong?

They attach behind the grille, in front of the radiator support, on the inner fenders. There should be a metal plate that is riveted to the back side. You should be able to feel it about 4" behind the headlights on the horizontal surface at the top of the inner fender. Mine were broken out on the '60 I had and on the '58. Someone may have glassed them in and not put the mounting plates back in place. I could get a pic of the location on the '58 if that would help.

        Ted,

My '58 has the same problem. No holes or plates as guides. I think Bubba glassed over the holes and then stuck one horn on the inner fender to the right of the radiator. The driver's side had no horn, mounting plate or hole. After 24 years of ownership and working on the car off and on, that is one of the last things I have to get right. A picture showing the correct placement would be helpful. Forgot to put that on my list to checkout at Old Town in January.

This is a picture of the passenger side repair for the horn nut plate. The front edge of the nut plate should sit about 4" back when measuring from the grille surround straight back and about 5 1/2" to the back edge. The plate is begins about 1" from the upper valence bonding strip and is about 2" to the fender side of the nut plate. This is based on the hole that was repaired.

The nut plate is a flat plate that has two rivets on one side and the nut to mount the horn on the other side. Does anyone out there know the orientation of the rivets verses the nut for the nut plate? My assumption was that the rivets went toward the fender and the nut toward the center but neither of my C1s have had the nut plates still in place.

            Ted,

Thanks for the picture. I have printed it with your instructions and as soon as the snow and cold leaves us here in Northern Maine, I'll orient the picture to the car. Only 7 to 8 more weeks before I take my bear our of hibernation and finish it for summer driving. Corvette Cabin Fever has definitely set in!

I am confused. If I look at the inside behind the grill to either side I see the bottom grommet for the park lights, the grommet for the headlight wires is 9.5 inches above that. There is a wire harness clip about 4 inches above the bottom grommet and it is right above a little circuler rise or bump. I see no other holes and my fenderwells are unmolested. I removed the one remaining horn but I CRS and I'm not sure it was where it belonged anyway.
Where are they located in relation to the grommets?

No answers? and I thought it was a dumb?

The only answer is not definitive and I can't tell what I'm looking at in the picture. This would have been alot easier if my next door neighbor had a 60 survivor (and I lived across the street from a hardware store.)

Larry. the prior shot was taken from the engine compartment side. If you reach in through the grille on either side, feel behind the upper valence panel and you'll find the bonding strip that bonds the inner fender to the valance. That is the bonding strip shown in the picture. If you go straight up from the headlight gromment and feel where the inner fender goes horizontal with a curve toward the grille surround, the hole in mine is about halfway between where you'd intersect this surface if you went straight up from the HL grommet and grille surround. Here's a picture of approximately where the horn would sit. The mounting bracket goes straight up and to the right. Hope this helps.

Yes it would, but then what fun would that be. If everything was easy there would be no sense of achivement when you were finished.
