I bought my first vette last summer, a 68 red/red coupe, and it needs alot of work. I have been collecting reference material before I start the teardown, but if I buy every book written on vettes, I will have more invested in a library than the car. I currently have the following; 1968 assembly manual; 1966-82 Shop Manual by MBI; Chassis Restoration Guide by Tripoli; GM Restoration Parts Refernce Guide; Vette Vues Fact Book 68-72 by Dobbins; Corvette Restoration Guide by Lindsay Porter; Eckler's Guide to Fiberglass Repair; and the Corvette Black Book 53-78. I know I need a 1968 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide but what other reference material would you suggest? Please list in order of importance. Thanks!!!

WRONG!
I'll take your post as tongue-in-cheek, dry wit. There's not a snowball's chance in Hades, you'll have more invested in your support library than in the car or its restoration. You might go out on the limb for $300-500 in printed material, max....
Next, you've done an EXCELLENT job picking the books to support 'baby'. My hat's off to you. Plus, you'll find typical NCRS types will literally bend over backwards to help he who's tried to help himself and come up short (we've all been there). The only thing I'd say is don't delay on the Judging Guide and PV books. You're lucky, Dick Whittington and his team did a superb job in their '68-69 JG. Some say it's almost a receipe on how to restore vs. an on-field reference manual.
In general, the JG's for '63-67, '68-69, and '70-72 are RICH in technical detail. So, if you've got one of these cars, your STARTING place ought to be the JG....- Top

Re: Reference Material
Jeff----
There is one PRIMARY reference that I notice as a glaring omission in your library. That is the Chevrolet 1968 Service and Overhaul Manuals. Reproductions of these manuals, published by Helm, Incorporated, are available from the NCRS office. If you have only ONE reference in your library, this should be it. Aftermarket, one-size-fits-all-years, type manuals do not compare. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
