I have a replacement power antenna on my 66. It is quite nice, but not the original piece. Can anyone recommend how best to replace it? That is should I buy a core and then try to find a shop to repair or should I just buy one done and if so, where? Thanks. SG

66 Power Antenna
Seth,
I know of two possible sources for original 66 antennas, Zip Products and a guy named Bob who has an ad in the latest issue of Driveline. If you don't have an original core to send in be prepared to pay $500 or more for a rebuilt/restored unit. I am in the same situation as your are. I have the GM service replacement part on my car and that antenna is perfectly functional, but it's not the same as the original.
Also be aware that you may ocassionally see someone in Hemmings selling NOS 65-66 antenna's, but every time I've called I've found out they are the service replacement parts and not the original units.
If you find any other sources, please let me know.

Re: 66 Power Antenna, watchout for short mast
Guys-Ask questions as to main mast height as repaired units i beleive have to have their main masts shortened. The one on my 66 which is original,is 9 3/4" from the black ring to the top of the first segment. The overall height is 12" to the top of the blunt bullet.I see lots of shortened ones at shows on 65 and 66s.
