    Under car exhaust

Is the GM logo and part number on top or on the bottom of installed mufflers?

    Re: Under car exhaust

Depends which side of the car you're talking about. The same muffler itself was used for each side as they welded it on numbers side up or numbers side down with the correct under the car piece to make a "left" or "right" assembly.

So, on one car you will often see numbers on the bottom of one and the top of the other.

Note that at least for 70-72, the numbers and GM logo indicate a service replacement. If I recall correctly (no guarantee) the originals instead have a "W" on top or bottom for Walker. I am not entirely sure if this would be true for your 67 as well.

      Re: Under car exhaust

Well now you tell me, why didn't you post this answer a week ago on VH. So now I'm thinking I have seen a W on the one original left on the car and the replacement I have might have the W on it also. When I get home I'm going to check it out.

I didn't see this part of the question on VH.
Heck this one is a relatively easy answer.

          Re: Under car exhaust

Well I got home and checked, my factory original has an A embossed on the surface. It just so happens the original muffler I bought also has the embossed A. Now the judging manual states that the muffler should have GM and a part number, I wish you were judging my car because from your statement an original muffler DOES NOT have GM and a part #. I will post pictures in the morning and hopefully get to the bottom of this, looks like a case of the JG misstating the facts just like it says mitted, LOL.

A for Arvin might be correct for some years. Patrick is too used to C3. Walker made the systems for early C3s.

Hey, I threw that caveat in there quite plainly.

Yes, you did, and I should know better than to comment about a '67. I know nothing about midyears.

I think the midyears kept the Corvette nameplate going until they could build the good cars in 70-72.

                      Re: Under car exhaust

So how cool A for Arvin, so how do I explain to a judge that the JG is incorrect and my factory original A muffler is correct. And by the way it's also very interesting that I do have a replacement A muffler because the service replacements I've been told had the GM and part number embossed.

Kevin, the way to get thing changed in the TIM & JG is to submit your comments to the Team Leader for the year of your car (in your case, 1967 would be Keith Biggers munch11@comcast.net) and explain your documentation. Sadly the requests for additions and changes are far and few between. People want to complain but they do not want to get involved in the revisions of the manuals. I have helped with several of the manuals for close to fifteen years. Everyone will say that they want to help, but when you ask for comments no one replies. It is very flustrating for the Team Leader and the members working on the manuals. Get involved.

Dick will do. I'll send pictures and my comments to the team leader as you suggested.

How? Research, photos of original components, pages copied from descriptive books or magazines, etc.
